Dimitris Kotsakos

I’m Dimitris, a Software Engineer with a Ph.D. in Machine Learning and a history of leading engineering teams. Currently, I head the Core Machine Learning team at Elastic, after spending several years working with incredible Greek companies like Skroutz and Workable.

Founding HOW

Through my journey in the Greek startup ecosystem, I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with some brilliant minds and even better people. One of them was Giorgos, and a few years later, we decided to take a leap into entrepreneurship together, founding HOW. My vision for HOW is to create a next-generation software development studio, focusing on what we’re truly passionate about: web applications. Along the way, HOW may release one or two products—or maybe even more. Our driving force is solving real problems and delivering an exceptional web experience for our clients and users. We’ll certainly tap into AI, but only where it makes sense. We’re not here to advertise the latest trends for the sake of it—we’re here to offer solutions that stand out.

My work philosophy

The best years of my career were the best because of the relationships I built and the privilege of working at companies that had the freedom to “do what they loved,” without being solely driven by business goals or financial pressure. That’s the culture I want to replicate at HOW. We’re passionate about our craft, and we care deeply about the work we do. If a client or project doesn’t align with our values, we’re okay with walking away. But every project we take on, we approach with genuine love and energy.
